Ombre Hair Color Technique and Tips

Ombre Hair Color

If you were lucky enough to walk through the Bronx Botanical Gardens for The Orchid Show recently then you were part of a great experience in the wonder of color. Natural color at its best. As a hair colorist I’m always amazed at the beauty of color. Outside of the world of natural color from beautiful flowers I step into the world of hair color and what is currently the trend of Ombre haircolor. Ombre hair color is a technique that looks to some like grown out hair color, and my guess is that in part the inspiration for the creation of this technique was exactly that….remember Madonna’s dark roots against her blonde hair? This Ombre technique  has become quite popular and has been perfected to look like sun drenched hair. It can look great when done well or awful when it looks like someone took a paint brush to the ends of the hair. Good hair color should mimic beautiful natural color. Consider the color of some flowers where the gradation of color goes from strong to soft or children’s hair color with the concentration of its natural highlights are on the ends. The results of this Ombre technique are the best when done on healthy hair. If the hair has been colored multiple times all over as many women do when they color their own hair at home the chances of over processing the hair can be great. Let your stylist check the elasticity of your hair before going the way of an Ombre.

On freshly colored hair for terrific shine consider a reconditioniong Keratine treatment on a follow-up visit to the salon. The keratine treatment maximizes color through shine and by smoothing out the cuticle of the hair. The Keratine treatment will also help smooth out a lot of the frizz on all hair as well as curly hair.  A Keratine treatment should be limited to no more that four times a year and often three times per year will suffice.
