With more women in the work force than ever before simple, with your individual edge, will get you through this busy season in style.Volume or” big hair” is back so if you have it flaunt it however straight and sleek hair has not left the scene. Bangs — short bangs, long bangs, razor cut bangs can all add to your haircut.

Bangs are an aspect of a hair cut that commands attention–and that never really go out of style. There is the classic bang that sits just above the eyebrow. There is the high, short bang. There is the long and full bang, the asymmetrical bang  and the soft fringe of a bang.  Bangs are a very personal accent to your hair cut and can often “make” the cut.  For those who feel they must wear a bang to soften a prominent forehead and who don’t trust their look without them, bangs act as a form of security.  For others, bangs may simply be about following a trend or bringing more attention to their eyes.  Consider the high short bang —… view full post >

Extension Techniques

Hair extensions are used regularly by women to add length, volume and color to one’s own hair. The techniques are many and what determines which technique is used depends on many things. The first thing to establish is the desired look or style that one is trying to achieve.  After establishing the look or style with the client the stylist must assess the clients’ natural hair before they can proceed. Some of the considerations include the density of the client’s natural hair, the health of the hair and the texture of the hair. Other questions include how much volume or length does the desired look need and what texture should be used?  Will the client be looking for extensions that… view full post >

Hair Styles for Brides

The wedding season is upon us and today the look of bridal hair is softer than ever. Although today’s hair styles are much more casual, hair is still a focal point for brides and needs special attention. Brides need time with their hair stylist  to decide on how to best wear their hair–the style of the dress and particularly the neckline are a couple of things to consider when styling the hair.  Brides now frequently go through a “trial run” of their chosen hairstyle with their hairstylist, since bridal quality up-do’s can be a bit of a challenge for many stylists:  it’s a way to assuage anxiety and has in fact become a part of the preparation and planning for… view full post >

Brazilian Keratin Straightening

The Brazilian keratin hair straightening treatment, also known as a reconditioning treatment, has become hugely popular. It is a way to shinier, frizz-free hair.   By now many people have also become aware of some of the controversy over the levels of allowable formaldehyde in many keratin products.  Nonetheless these products remain sought after by many women and some men who want the control of their frizzy hair that keratin treatments provide.  The fact that hair is made up mostly of keratin (it is the protein that provides the strength in every lock of hair) makes this treatment very effective and attractive.  Simply put, Keratin strengthens hair.  Salons all over the world have used protein treatments for years to strengthen hair,  … view full post >

Ombre Hair Color Technique and Tips

If you were lucky enough to walk through the Bronx Botanical Gardens for The Orchid Show recently then you were part of a great experience in the wonder of color. Natural color at its best. As a hair colorist I’m always amazed at the beauty of color. Outside of the world of natural color from beautiful flowers I step into the world of hair color and what is currently the trend of Ombre haircolor. Ombre hair color is a technique that looks to some like grown out hair color, and my guess is that in part the inspiration for the creation of this technique was exactly that….remember Madonna’s dark roots against her blonde hair? This Ombre technique  has become quite… view full post >

Curly Hair Tips

After many years of working with every texture of hair that exist, to make it look one way or another, it is refreshing to see more and more women with curly hair wearing it curly. Some  may argue that it is not suitable for everyone,  I say more women can wear it than not. A couple of important things to remember when getting curly hair to look its best and probably the most important is what not to do…Do not disturb the curl while it’s drying and using the right products. After the right shampoo or cleanser for your hair type followed by the right conditioner, leave the hair pretty wet for the styling. Unless your hair is thinning or… view full post >

2013 Trends For All Natural Hair

In the beauty industry we are seeing a trend towards a more natural style. People want easy and fast, sexy and fun. This goes for men and women with long hair or short hair, textured or straight. With curly hair, the product has always been the key, and with the right product you get the best results. Although there are many people who shy away from product for many reasons (allergies, too much fragrance) the look without product on textured hair will be more frizzy and all natural, which is a look all by itself. For those with a softer curl and finer hair, a little product, such as Aestalance Summer Series Hydrate leave-in conditioner, goes a long way and… view full post >
